25JanWhy highest ethical standards mean good business?

Posted on 25/01/2016 by Nine2Three

In 2015 the management team at Nine2Three decided that we needed a statement that said exactly who we were.

We have been in business for over 12 years and we had quite a few new staff starting with us. We wanted not only to send a message to the business community and our clients about who we were and what we stand for, but we wanted to be able to articulate to new employees our corporate identity. Our corporate identity needs to match with our employees personal identity for our business and our workers to both be successful.

Dedicated professionals providing client focused, quality, HR and recruitment solutions with commitment, energy and highest ethical standards.

That’s us!

What do we mean by highest ethical standards? Ethics in business reflects a high level of professionalism, integrity, honesty, accountability and transparency. Certainly, we comply with the Codes of Professional Conduct as required by our industry body: The Recruitment and Consulting Services Association. Their Code of Conduct refers to a high standard of ethics, compliance with the law, and social and corporate responsibility.

Anyone can play lip service to this type of behaviour, but the key issue, is to communicate your values and standards to your employees, contractors, clients and business associates. By integrating an ethical identity into our business, we are telling the world, what you can expect from us in terms of service, quality and communication. This is Nine2three; it is part of our culture, an expectation on every worker and is what leads us to have such low turnover rates within the business. 38% of our employees have been with the business over 10 years and even our junior workers stay for years before moving on to further their careers in larger organisations.

Ethical culture increases productivity because everyone is like-minded and the expectation is clear. It makes your business more attractive to other businesses looking to work with you and is more attractive to investors as well. You create a strong corporate reputation that can protect your business in tough times and enhance your business opportunities. Increased opportunities, longer tenure from staff and positive reputation all lead towards stronger business growth and return on investment.

Looking at the collapse of some well known global companies, demonstrates what less than ethical dealings can lead to. This type of behavior is not sustainable in the end and if the leadership team does not set the ethical framework for the business, it is a slippery slope. Most businesses would have some kind of framework in place from a Code of Conduct to policies that cover behaviour, conflict of interest and probity. If you wish to start to develop a stronger culture, talk to us about the types of documents we can develop for you to provide the platform for a strong ethical culture. After all, you know who we are now and what we do!
