6JunMinimum Wage Increase

Posted on 6/06/2016 by Nine2Three

The Federal Government instigates a minimum wage increase, decided by Fair Work Australia July each year and at that time, all base award rates increase.  This increase will become effective and enforceable from the first pay period on or after 1 July each year.

An increase in base wages for employees also increases all other award liabilities that rely on the base rate for their calculations including overtime rates, penalty rates and allowances.

Additionally, it also increases all other employment liabilities that also rely on wages for their calculations including superannuation, payroll tax, workers compensation and other associated insurances.

So… Stress Less, because at Nine2Three we have you covered!

We are committed to ensuring your business has the most up-to-date documents, checklists and processes to ensure compliance with Fair Work Australia and all necessary wage rate increases are implemented in readiness for July 1 each year.

Most claims made against employers concern award non-compliance. The National Award System and Employment Standards have a variety of items above and beyond wages that need to be adhered to and updated, in order to protect your business.

Keep in mind that any breach of the Act, including the National Employment Standards, or a breach of a modern award, is subject to the maximum penalty of $51,000 for a corporation and $10,200 for an individual per contravention.

If you are not aware of what award covers you, speak to us immediately so we can get you sorted before the end of the financial year.

We will train you on how to read your award including minimum wages and related matters, types of employment, shifts and casual loadings, allowances, ordinary hours of work and rostering, as well as overtime and penalty rates.

Don’t know how to classify your workers?

Not aware that this is a legal requirement?

We will assist you with this as well, training you in understanding classification structures, to enable you to choose the correct rate of pay for your workers.

Essentially registering for Award Research with Nine2Three is the first step in being Fair Work compliant and minimising your risk of breaches of the Fair Work Act. Call us today and sleep well, because we look after all of this for you!
